CEBU, Philippines - The Dumaguete-bound Mandaue City pugilists showed how well-prepared they are for their upcoming tour of duty by beating their respective rivals in the final battle for January of the 2012 Summit Natural Drinking Water Amateur Boxing Series the other night at the Gaisano Countrymall carpark.
Dann Lou Codilla, gold medallist in last year's Visayas Regional Amateur Boxing Championships and Kevin Jake Cataraja may have grown heavier, but their aggressiveness remain on the way to hack out similar 3-0 wins over separate foes.
Codilla clobbered fellow University of the Visayas (UV) student Wendel Acharon in their 54 kgs. duel, while Cataraja whipped fellow Mandauehanon Cherwellan Cantel in the 52 kgs. division.
Teammates Ferde San Roque and Melmark Dignos had to fight against each other as those who were supposed to challenge them were not feeling well. San Roque came out victorious by decision.
Another Dignos, Welmark, dumped Benjie Manatad of Sanai Boxing Club via a 3-0 verdict, while Mardie Muaña defeated another Sanai BC entry Patrick Gullane in the 56 kgs. class.
Rolan Servania likewise proved his worth to be part of Team Mandaue by overpowering Christian Bacolod.
In the other bouts, 32 kgs. Vicente Seos-e, Jr., 36 kgs. Ariel Sibay, 40 kgs. Rommel Tuñacao and 43 kgs. Jeffrey Stella, 46 kgs. Polid Banal and 58 kgs. Eleno Traya hurdled their respective assigments.
Seos-e and Ariel Sibay silenced Bebe and Richard Rama, both of the Philippine-Amateur Boxing Club, respectively.
Tuñacao outpunched Rhezon Tarona, Estella mauled Sultan Kudarat’s Marvin Lulu, Banal pounced Bryan Remedio, while last minute entry Eleno Traya prevailed over Robert Labanza. (FREEMAN)
