Cebu City to send 8 pugs to D'guete boxfest

CEBU, Philippines - The city government of Cebu through the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) will be sending eight pugilists to this year's PLDT-ABAP Visayas Amateur Boxing Championships set from January 24 to 30 in Dumaguete City.

Comprising the TCC lineup are their trainees under the CCSC grassroots program, while the rest come from the ALA Boxing gym.

They are Junriel Jimenez, Rodez Piala, Roexyl Tabogon, Jerry Castrodes, Mark Kevin Soreno, Jay-Jay Antipala, Christian Bacolod, Windy Aharon and Ramjess Colina.

“They have been undergoing intensive training. Our coaches are working hard to improve their skills and with some ALA boxers lent to us, we’re positive that we can do better,” said CCSC Executive Director Brando Velasquez

But even before the event could unfold, the Cebu City Boxing Team already lost two potential golds as it has no entries in the two heaviest weight classes.

This is because TCC only fields in athletes with bright chance of lording it over in their respective weight divisions.

Inspite of that, Velasquez remains confident that they will come up with a better showing, if not, dominate the week-long contest that serves as the Visayas qualifying for the National Championships set next month in Tagbilaran City.  (FREEMAN)
