CEBU, Philippines - This Cameroonian recruit by the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras could be the man to watch in the upcoming Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) season and he sent a stern warning this early.
Mendjana Mbala fired 22 points to lead the Cobras in an 82-75 conquest of the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers in an exhibition match the other night in Dapa, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.
Mbala, a 6-foot-6 compatriot of Justin Aboude, will be suiting up for the Cobars in the 12th CESAFI season.
Aboude and Bong Guillena each chipped in 14 points for the Cobras, who led most of the way.
Jerome Silva paced the Lancers with 21 points, while comebacking guard Eman Calo and John Abad had 12 and 11 points, respectively.
In the preliminary match, the Dapa All-Star led by Mayor Peter "Boy" Ruaya,defeated the PNP selection, 80-72.
