Cebu to host 2012 Ironman 70.3 PHL

CEBU, Philippines - Things look bright for the Queen City of the South to host the 2012 Ironman 70.3 Philippines on August 5 at the Shangri-La Resort in Mactan Island.

A poster of the event and even on Ironman’s official website still lists Camarines Sur as venue but when one registers for the country's biggest triathlon race, it has already been indicated that Cebu is the new host.

Multi-awarded sportsman Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez, Jr. told The Freeman that they kept this a “secret” for sometime as they were still ironing out some details.

With this development, Rodriguez is egging on the Cebuanos' full support and cooperation especially that the race entails closing some of the roads and one of the two bridges in Mactan.

If plans don’t miscarry, the route will involve Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Cebu City and Talisay.

The organizers are looking at coming up with a traffic plan that will ensure the participants’ safety and at the same time provide an alternate route for motorists and a re-routing scheme for the regular commuters.

“I’m sure that whatever inconvenience this event will bring, mas dako ang ma-benefit sa Cebu ani. Daku ang paglambo just like what happened in CamSur.So I hope everyone cooperates and understands,” said Rodriguez.  (FREEMAN)
