CEBU, Philippines - Close to one hundred adventure racers will participate in the 1st Habagat Ultra Trail Run tomorrow night starting in Barangay Taptap, Cebu City.
The 50-kilometer ultra-marathon will serve as preparation for what is considered the toughest adventure race in the Philippines – the Carrera Habagat, which is set to be revived next year.
This adventure race was last held three years ago.
“This is a pre-race for the re-launching of the Carrera Habagat, one of the biggest trail run event in the country,” said Habagat Race director Ramon Vidal during the race briefing and press conference yesterday at the Active Zone in Ayala Center Cebu.
“Aside from that, this ultra-marathon aims to give another taste of the running boom here in Cebu at the same time promote the beauty in our mountain barangays,” he said.
Competing against our local trail runners are out-of-town participants from Bohol and Davao with the Everest Team led by Pastor Emata, also foreign racers from Malaysia and Kenya.
Aside from medals, the top finishers will get exciting prizes, while all the finishers will receive the first edition of Xtreme trail pack made by Habagat. - THE FREEMAN
