Batang Pinoy reg'l finals on today in D'guete

CEBU, Philippines - Hundreds of young athletes from Central Visayas will converge today for the formal opening of the Batang Pinoy Games Regional Finals at the Gov. Mariano Perdices Sports Complex in Dumaguete City.

Team Cebu City fielded in over 100 athletes for this multi-sport event. The City's representatives were chosen based on their performance during the Milo Little Olympics and the Cebu City Olympics.

The last time Cebu City joined the Batang Pinoy was in 2004 in Palawan where it finished fourth place overall.

TCC will only participate in archery, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, boxing, 3-on-3 basketball, judo, weightlifting, athletics and taekwondo.

“We are not certain to get the overall title. All I can say is that we are sending most of the best athletes in sporting events that we are joining in,” said TCC coordinator Brando Velasquez.

The winners of the week-long athletic meet will represent the region in the Batang Pinoy National Games slated on December 10-14 in Naga, Camarines Sur. - THE FREEMAN
