Dugong Kampeon tonight in Lapu-Lapu

CEBU, Philippines - Undefeated knockout artist Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. will try to reaffirm his ring supremacy as he against tough veteran Donriel Marcos tonight in the main event of “Dugong Kampeon” at the Hoopsdome in Lapu-Lapu City.

A third generation of former world champions, Dodie Jr. eyes his seventh professional knockout win and will prove to Filipino boxing fans that he is ready for a bigger stage.

An impressive win is a must for Dodie Jr., as a slot has been reserved for him to fight in the undercard of the highly-anticipated trilogy between Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao and Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez this November 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

During the weigh-in yesterday, the 21-year-old former amateur standout, weighed exactly 122 pounds, while his opponent who hails from Lanao Del Norte tipped the scales at 123 pounds.

Former two-division world champion Dodie Boy Sr. expressed his confidence that his son will once again win in a convincing fashion and that this fight will prove that his prodigy got what it takes to start a campaign for boxing stardom.

Dodie Sr. also revealed their game plan in slowly breaking down Marcos before finishing him in the fifth or sixth round.

“Wa pa mi kita sa inawayan ani niya (Marcos) mao nang amo lang sa ni hinayhinayan og kun tinuod nga brawler ni, among birahan og suwayan namo pag-patumba sa fifth o sixth round,” said Dodie Sr.

Aside from his eldest son, Dodie Sr. will also have a close watch on the younger Dave Peñalosa, who will make his pro debu fight against John Edu Torbiso, one of the boxers who was featured in the boxing reality of GMA-7 “Buhay Boksingero.”

The rest of the card includes IBF ranked southpaw Michael Farenas who will face Edgar Gabejan for the Philippine featherweight title, while come backing Eden Sonsona take on Gadwin Tubigon of Cagayan De Oro City. (FREEMAN)
