CEBU, Philippines - Defending champion University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters shoot for their fourth straight win in as many starts when they go up against the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers in the main collegiate match of the 11th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season today at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Webmasters' mindset is not just to stay alone on top of the standings but also to sustain their unbeaten streak as they take on the Lancers for the first time since the 2010 finals where they ended the nine-year reign of UV.
The Lancers, for their part, are gunning for their fourth victory in five games.
June Mar Fajardo had always been the money man for the Webmasters but against UV, he needs other allies to support him in scoring.
They hope that guys like Edward Pao, Quinton Brian Heruela, Gerald Ampoon and Robinson Mohammad will deliver, while the Lancers will rely on Edrian Lao, John Michael Abad, Jerome Silva and Harold Cincoflores among others.
In the other collegiate duel, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USP-F) Panthers hope to bounce back from their loss to the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors when they go up against the Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U) Wildcats.
The 2-1 Panthers are the slight favorites over the 0-3 Wildcats, who will be led by the tandem of Allan Dimco and Chester Curso.
The Panthers will pin their hopes on Fritz Dajalos, Joseph Sedurifa, Randy Avila, Anthony Lino and the Ferraren brothers - Earvin and James.
In the secondary matches, the Baby Panthers will collide with the more solid Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles, while Baby Warriors hope to stop the bleeding when they try to upset the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves in the curtain raiser. (FREEMAN)
