Go, Purcia shine in President's Cup 2011

CEBU, Philippines - Lloyd Jefferson Go and Guilbert Purcia led the winners of the President’s Cup 2011 held last Saturday at the Club Filipino Incorporada de Cebu course in Danao City.

Go sprayed seven birdies around the course and had a bogey and a double-bogey to finish with a gross score of four-under-par 67. He ran away with the lowest gross plum.

Purcia, who plays with a handicap of 19 strokes, toured the par-71 layout with a gross seven-over-par 78 to finish with a net 59, the lowest in the 18-hole strokeplay event.

The tournament was held in honor of club president Ramon ‘Boboy’ Durano IV.

The class A title for the team event went to the group of Julius Neri, Sr., his son Jovi, and Gen Nagai.

The elder Neri had a net score of 71 while Jovi made a net 66 off a gross score of one-under-par 70. Nagai had a net 64 in this three-man team event where all three scores counted for the team total. The winning team had a total of 201 strokes.

Members of the club were allowed to have more than one team to accommodate the big number of guests, who played.

The elder Neri also won the runner-up honors for the premiere handicap class. This time, his net 71 was backed by a net 69 of nephew Bayani Garcia and LJ Go’s net 62 for a total of 202.

The class B title went to the team of Ronald Alfeche (62), Edwin Espina (65) and Marlou Cugtas (65) with a total of 192 strokes, which was the best for the tournament.

Runner-up honors for the category where team members had an average handicap of 12 to 20 strokes, went to the team of Boboy Durano (66), Hermes Tangaan (66) and Glenn Mayam (68) with a total of 200 strokes.

The class C title went to the team of Durano (66), Rico Tautho (70), and Rodien Paca (63) with a total score of 199 strokes.

Runner-up honors went to the team of Larry Ocheda (63), Edwin Go Lim (70), and Laurence Chian (67) with a total of 200.

A total of 160mplayers took part in the tournament where one club member teamed up with two guests to form one team. – NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
