CEBU, Philippines - Cebu-based bantamweight prospect Marco Singwangcha takes one last hurdle before earning a shot at a more prestigious title as he defends his Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) 118-pound belt against veteran Mindanao brawler Nelson Llanos of Butuan City in the main event of the 4th Lionel E. Bacalos Cup "Sibonga Boxing Championship" at 7 pm this Sunday at the Sibonga Centrum.
More than retaining his PBF crown, the match is of huge importance for Singwancha because if victorious, he is set to challenge reigning PHL bantamweight title-holder Rey Perez at his hometown in Iligan City on September 16.
If he succeeds in dethroning Perez, Cebuano topnotch promoter Rex "Wakee" Salud bared that he will introduce Singwangcha to MP Promotions that will eventually pave the way for him to get lucrative fights in the United States.
Singwangcha, whose real name is Marco Demecillo, is sponsored by Thailand's top boxingman Naris Singwancha, who puts up the slambang show in partnership with Rex "Wakee" Salud International Promotions and the municipal government of Sibonga under the leadership of Mayor Lionel E. Bacaltos and Vice Mayor Rey Apuda.
In the undercard, TI Yamagata Sentilla of Mandaue will slug it out with Noel "Dinamita" Adelmita for 10 rounds under the flyweight division.
Three other Singwangchas will show their stuff in Sandoval against Mario Talili of Bohol, S. Llanera versus Honey Boy Vidad of Siquijor and Jayson opposite Junel Busano of Bohol.
In the other featured matches, Lobert Bayo will mix it up with Erwin Pulvera.
The event is among the highlights of the annual fiesta celebration of Sibonga in honor of its beloved patroness Sta. Filomena Nuestra Señora del Pilar. – THE FREEMAN
