'Dugong Kampiyon' slugfest tonight

CEBU, Philippines - The time has come for super bantamweight prospect Dodie Boy Peñalosa, Jr. to show that he has what it takes to be a world champion like his father and uncle as he takes on the battle-tested Jeoffrey Jimenez of Casablanca Gym in the main event of "Dugong Kampiyon" boxing card tonight at Cebu Coliseum.

Carrying the name of his father, former two-division world champion Dodie Boy Peñalosa Sr., the younger Peñalosa will headline the slambang card promoted by GerryPens Promotions of former world title-holder Gerry Peñalosa.

The undefeated Peñalosa will try to score his fifth consecutive knockout victory against the Manila-based Jimenez (5-8-2, 3KOs) in an eight-round bout.

For his part, Gerry Peñalosa said this will be a significant fight for his 20-year-old nephew as he is lined up to challenge PBF super bantamweight titlist Jason Egera.

In the supporting main event, Marvin Mabait (12-0-2, 7KOs) of Cong. Ernie Fabian’s Gym of Manila will face Aljun Salogaol (11-15-2, 5KOs) of the Omega Boxing Gym of Cebu in a 10-rounder.

Two amateur bouts will open up the show that will start at 4 pm.

Tickets are pegged at P200 for ringside, P100 for lower box, while the general admission is free to the public courtesy of Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao.

GMA-7 will telecast the card through GMA News TV on July 3 starting at 10 am. - (THE FREEMAN)
