CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Niños capped their campaign with 53 golds, 42 silvers and 74 bronzes at the conclusion of the week-long Philippine National Games yesterday at the Panaad Sports and Recreation Center in Bacolod City.
The promising Dannel Jay Tormis mentored by Jessica Jawad-Honoridez delivered a gold medal after an impressive performance that vaulted him to the boys 17-under title in table tennis event.
In sepak takraw, the Niños of Marlon Gicain bagged three golds courtesy of former Southwestern University players now PHL Team members Metodio Suico Jr., Danilo Alipan and Jumar Aleta.
On the other hand, Jade Mecaldo and Mike Abria of the University of the Visayas (UV), first time beach volley partners, settled for a decent silver medal after losing to the national squad in the men's beach volley.
PHL spikers Angelu Espiritu and Parley Tupaz fended off Becaldo and Abria in straight sets, 21-16, 21-18.
In judo, SAC-SMC awardee Joaquin Niccolo Fernandez bagged a silver medal in the juniors 60kgs. category, while Hazel Faye Laude took bronze in the girls 48 kgs. class. – (FREEMAN)
