UC cagers to join Universiade in China

CEBU, Philippines - Reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men's basketball champion University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will see action in the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China from August 12-23.

To formally announce UC's entry in the biennial meet, a press luncheon will be held tomorrow at Hotel Fortuna owned by Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP)-7 director Lorenzo "Chao" Sy and will be graced by BAP president Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and secretary general Graham Lim.

The sending of UC to China is recommended by both Lim and Chao with the assistance of BAP and the Federation of School Sports of the Philippines (FESSAP).

Aside from basketball, the other events to be contested in the Universiade are swimming, table tennis, badminton, chess, archery, beach volleyball and athletics.

This marks for the first time that the Philippines will take part in the Universiade.

The Webmasters will be officially presented in the press conference by CESAFI commissioner Felix O. Tiukinhoy, Jr. and CESAFI board member Atty. Baldomero C. Estenzo.

Although the Webmasters are already a formidable squad, Estenzo is toying with the idea of bringing a highly competitive team to China by fielding in a Cebu Selection instead of solid UC roster. (FREEMAN)
