CEBU, Philippines - After providing former varsity and commercial players the avenue to do what they love, its time for the younger generation to showcase their wares with the staging of the Junior Cebu Basketball Association (Jr.CBA) tentatively set April 24 in a still undisclosed venue.
Cebu City Councilor and multi-titled head coach, Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba decided to open the CBA to younger players with the thought of raising the level of skills at the 18-under bracket.
Alcoseba earlier cited that the lack of exposure for local talents hinders local teams to do well against Manila-based squads during National tournaments.
Alcoseba met with several coaches yesterday already to discuss details of the events.
Present at the meeting were representatives from Ave Maria Sanctuary and Park, Cebu Eastern College Dragons, Athletes for Christ in Excellent Service, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Mandaue City.
Another team, Asuki has also expressed interest in the event according to league official Boy Murillo.
Interested parties need to present an National Statistics Office-certified birth certificate to prove that they are still 18 years-old or younger.
The champion team will receive P50 thousand while the second and third places takes home with P30 thousand and P20 thousand respectively. (FREEMAN)
