CEBU, Philippines - B-Meg/San Carlos Boys’ High Alumni Basketball Association (SCBHABA) and Metro Cebu Uptown Jaycees (MCUJ)/RC Goldline scored confidence building wins to fasten its places in the team standings of the Seniors’ Executive Cup 2011.
B-Meg/SCBHABA went to the leadership of Lou Regidor and Dindo Sausa to top Cokaliong Shipping Lines (CSL), 76-69, while MCUJ/RC Goldline leaned on a balanced scoring attack to beat Mandaue Jaycees, 89-77.
Regidor scattered a total of 28 points, while Sausa pitched in 19 as both players stood tall as the ex-Baby Warriors stopped a searing end-game rally to score their second win in three games. B-Meg/SCBHABA controlled the game from the onset, enjoying a 12-point lead at halftime (38-26) and at the end of three quarters (59-47).
CSL, which shot miserably from the field, suddenly found its range, banking on Chester Cokaliong’s two triples to launch an endgame rally that would cut the lead down to two on Opel Cabaltera’s bank shot, 70-68, a minute left in the game.
Regidor then calmly drilled six straight free throws as CSL went on a fouling spree to stop the clock. Regidor and Sausa combined for 15 of the team’s 17 points in the fourth period to fend off the CSL rally. Julius Gastador and Cokaliong led CSL with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
In the other game, MCUJ/RC Goldline went to the hot hands of Jimbo Noel to break open a close game in the third quarter. Down 38-39 at halftime, Noel, who didn’t see action in the first half, scored 16 points on 8-for-10 shooting to give the team a 67-61 lead going into the fourth period.
With Noel, slowing down, MCUJ/RC Goldline stepped it up in the fourth period through the combo of Robert Abasolo and Carlos Porras who had six points each in the final canto to seal the win. Noel led five players with double digit scoring with 18 points. He was backed by Leode Garcia’s 14 and Montoy Singson’s 12 points. Abe Galinato led Mandaue Jaycees with 26.
MCUJ/RC Goldline now holds a 3-0 record followed B-Meg/SCBHABA (2-1), CSL (2-1), CEPBA (2-1), Club Monday (1-3) and Mandaue Jaycees (0-4). The Seniors’ Executive Cup 2011, a tournament for players 35 years old and above is a revival of the original Executive Cup of 2003-2005 and Pacman Cup of 2007. (FREEMAN)
