CEBU, Philippines - Cebu tennis community has something to look forward to as the 1st DRB Men’s Tennis Open kicks off this Saturday at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club and Pardo tennis courts.
The tournament runs from January 22-29. It will serve as a tune-up match for the National Collegiate Games in Manila next month and for the Palarong Pambansa this summer.
The first and second round of action will be held at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club while the semifinals and the championships will be at the Pardo Tennis Club.
The champion will receive P10,000, while the runner-up will pocket P5,000. The semifinalists and quarterfinalists will get P2,500 and P1,500, respectively.
DRBSPORTS is the advocacy group of the DRB & Co., CPA’s and DRB Holdings, Inc. which finds passion in sports. Instead of adopting a traditional community outreach program alongside with other civic groups, different sports events will be organized.
DRBSPORTS is set to hold its 2011 and the first season of a year round sports festival ranging from lawn tennis, swimming, football, volleyball, badminton, baseball and among other indoor and outdoor sports aimed at promoting leagues and tournaments.
This program gives the young and budding athletes the opportunity to compete in amateur sports either recreational or vocational. Sports being organized are a program and not a race between other existing sports league and tournament organizers.
DRB sports director Cathy Elizondo and PHILTA accredited referee for the Visayas Fritz Tabura announced that the tournament is expected to be participated in by the Cebu’s local talents and neighboring provinces.
