CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Team A and Philippine Army got off to rousing starts in the 1st Baybayon Open Volleyball Tournament the other night at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
Fresh from a championship run in the Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup, the Mandaue City belles fended off the Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras in straight sets, 25-19, 25-19.
The likes of former RP Youth member Genie Sabas, Erika Camille Verano, Rachel Hanna Singson, Kenneth Garces, Chona Gesulga, Juriza Arofo and Lovena Amor Pepito powered Mandaue to victory.
On the other hand, Philippine Army shackled Talisay City, 25-19, 25-15.
The Philippine Army is composed of Rachelle Anne Daquis, Michelle Carolino, Joan Buna, Ers Iratay, Gonzales, Divas and De Leon.
The Talisaynons quickly bounced back though and vented their ire on Mandaue City B, 25-17, 25-20, behind the powerful attacks of Mechelle Matuguina, Jullet Mae Marikit, Florian Guttierrez, Ivy Abella and Roselyn Balincasag.
Aside from trophies and medals, the champion will receive P5,000, while the second and third placers will get P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
