Joya, Dizon lead Mactan golf winners

CEBU, Philippines - Retired General Rodante Joya and Jose Mari ‘Boyet’ Dizon lead the winners in the final event of Mactan Island Golf Club played the other weekend at the par-72 course located inside the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base in the Lapu-Lapu City.

Joya, the club’s general manager, was declared as the lowest net champion in the Year End Members Tournament shooting 65 strokes off a gross 77.

Dizon bagged the lowest gross honors with his three-over-par 75 strokes.

Park Seong Cheol topped class A with a net score of 68 off a gross 80 while runner honors went to Marlo Cugtas with a net score of 69 off a gross 81.

The class B title went to Col. Bam Jamorabo with a net score of 66. Runner-up honors for this class went to Edwin Espina, who also had a net score of 66, but lost in the countback.

The class C title went to Tito Lerio with a net score of 66 followed by Virgie Lampinen, who shot a net 67 to finish second.

Boy Alegre ruled the seniors’ class with a net score of 67 while runner-up honors went to Pedro Buenavista with a net 70.

Special awards went to Oscar Cornelio for the longest drive on Hole No. 1 landing his tee shot 290 yards, Nestor Cabrera for nearest the pin on the 15th leaving 5 feet for a birdie try, and Gene Quintanilla, who holed out a 35-foot putt on the 18th, which was the longest.

INTRA-CLUB TOURNAMENT

Team Los Guapitos bagged the title in this tournament among the various groups of players of the club.

The team fired a total of 350 strokes in the seven-to-play, five-to-count format.

The team members, who counted for the total, were Edwin Espina 66, Marlo Cugtas 69, Boyet Dizon 68, Felix Villanueva 73, and Razzy Razon 74. Rolando Alberto also had a 74 and Lee Ung Rak made 83, which did not count for the total.

The Airlifters of the 220 Airlift Wing of the Philippine Air Force took home the best in uniform award.

The team was composed of Brigadier General Antonio Oliquino, Col. Bam Jamorabo, Col. Nic Parilla, Lt. Col. Elvis Jequinto, Maj. Kim Agatpe, and Capt. Rhanjee Lao.

MATCH PLAY WINNERS

Alberto ‘Bart’ Vergara bagged the title for the championship division beating Fernando ‘Andot’ Mondares in the final.

The class A title went to Gen. Joya with Maj. Agatep as runner-up.

Zoe Lim won the class B plum beating Shee Jin Chia.

Cirilo ‘Boy’ Nemenio won the class C plum with Edwin Morales as runner-up.

The class D1 title went to Leo Quimco while Pagcor Mactan’s Eric Livelo took the runner-up honors.

The class D2 plum was taken by Nilo Ybañez with Reynee Estavillo as runner-up. (FREEMAN)
