CEBU, Philippines - The success of last weekend’s 1st Mayor Jonas Shooters Cup held at the NS Outdoor Firing Range in barangay Tawason, Mandaue City has been rewarded with a promise by the chief executive of the city for a bigger event.
Mandaue City Mayor Cortes, who stayed the whole day to witness the competition and also observed how the personnel from the city police department performed in the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) event.
Also contested were the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), rifle and the shotgun categories.
Lowell Belarmino, the range master for the event and the area coordinator for Region 7 of the Philippine Practical Shooting Association and an IDPA safety officer, told The Freeman that close to 300 shooters took part in the competition.
It was the last shoot for the season, he said.
IDPA
Oliver Glodove topped the Stock Service Pistol (SSP) division as well as the sharpshooter category of the class. Runner-up honors for the sharpshooter level went to Rolando Tocle.
In IDPA, shooters are classified under three categories based on how they perform in a course set by the international body to rate its members. Those non-members and those who haven’t been qualified are bracketed under the unclassified group.
The marksman title for the SSP class went to Nelson Esguerra with Joel Concepcion as runner-up.
Jason Capoy won the unclassified class with Insong Marum as runner-up. The winner of the Safety Officer (SO) category was Rico Cabatingan.
For the Custom Defensive Pistol (CDP) division, Nixon Mendoza was declared overall champion.
The expert class crown went to Nogie Biagan while Mendoza took the sharpshooter class plum with Renato Dugan as runner-up.
The marksman title went to Reynan Vidal with Gino Ramil as runner-up.
Frank Oriol topped the unclassified group with Roger Canlom as runner-up. The winner of the SO class was Junivan Villanueva.
Yogie Javier ruled the Enhance Service Pistol (ESP) division as Keith Siao won the expert class.
The sharpshooter category was topped by Jack Rentuza. The marksman title went to Roel Diagon with Mike Hussein as runner-up.
Arnoldo Famor was best among the unclassified with Allistair Cortes as runner-up. Richard Seno Tan won the SO category title.
Lawyer Ismael Trinidad topped the revolver category.
IPSC
Keith Siao was the champion of the production division. Rowgun Fausto took the first runner-up honors followed by Mark Ang, Ric Bono, and Martin Belarmino.
Belarmino was also declared as the junior champion with Mejorah Pangilinan on second and Howell Sia on third.
Ric Bono won the senior title with on second.
Mejorah Pangilinan won the ladies division followed by Maggie Quiseo and Eleanore Catay.
Joel Concepcion topped the range officers’ category for the production class followed by William Tirado and Bot Ramos.
Fredilson Codilla won the lawman title with Oliver Glodove on second and Isagani Cabanlit taking third.
Franz Pacaldo was the best among the baby juniors followed Vince Louie Biscocho and Alfonso Biagan.
The standard division champion was Arestil Famor with Keith Andaya taking second followed by Michael Arada, James Manigos, and Brandon Lariosa on third to fifth place.
Kevin Cortes topped the junior category with Josephine Panimdim and Alfonso Biagan on second and third.
Yogie Javier won the senior title with Roger Uy taking second.
Gina Gacho won the ladies crown with Josephine Panimdim on second.
Urseevi Tubio won the RO match followed by Alano Gamo and Ramon Vidal.
The top three for the lawman category were Keith Andaya, Renato Dugan, and Nixon Mendoza.
Dugan also topped the single stack class followed by Nogie Biagan, Gino Ramil, Alex Manzano, and Ernesto Dy on second to fifth place.
Cesar Ting ruled the open division followed by JP Amadora, Saldie Tan UnKheng, Kelly Abella, and Bayani Atup.
Saldie Tan Unkheng won the junior title with Jay Anthony on second and Shewrin TanUnkheng on third.
Rey Abad topped the senior class while Marlene Efferberger won the ladies’ class.
The lawman title went to Renato Dugan followed by Greg Algoso and Leonito Caro.
The revolver title went to Ismael Trinidad with Erig Ayag and Ricardo Roa taking second and third places.
Roa also topped the senior class while Ayag won the lawman title with Roa taking second and Pablo Mozo was third.
Rifle and shotgun, mandaue cops
Urseevi Tubio ruled the open category for the rifle event followed by Miguel Osmeña on second and Bayani Atup on third.
Cris ‘Tintoy’ Tolentino topped the standard rifle event with Allister Cortes taking second and Nogie Biagan was third.
Vicent Tiu ruled the pump shotgun class followed by Bobby Fornolles and Kevin Cortes.
Miguel Osmeña topped the shot gun semi category with Reynan Vidal finishing second.
Jason Capoy was best for the SSP class in the Mandaue Police category followed by Insong Marum and Rico Cabatingan.
Frank Oriol won the CDP title followed by Jimmy Aguisanda and Froilan Gomez.
Raniel Capangpangan won the ESP class followed by Mario Gako and Rogelio Cortel.
The team title went to Intelligence division followed by the mayor’s office and the CAID on second and third.
Renato Fornolles was the match director.
The biggest multi-gun match of the year...shooters from all shooting discipline-IPSC, IDPA, RIFLE AND SHOTGUN came and enjoyed the last shoot for the season - almost 300 came.
The Honorable Mayor of Mandaue City, Jonas Cortes, gave his total undivided support and presence and stayed the whole day shooting all IPSC and IDPA stages. He observed the members of the Mandaue City Police Office engaged the IDPA stages and noted the vast areas for their improvement in terms of firearms skills and proficiency. With this, the Mayor promised a bigger 2nd Mayor Jonas Cortes Shooters Cup next year.
Cebu shooters took home all the top championships with shooters from Dumaguete and Bayawan City coming in close runner-ups.
Range Master for the entire event is Lowell Belarmino, Area Coordinator for PPSA in Region 7 and at the same time safety officer of IDPA Cebu. (FREEMAN)
