CEBU, Philippines - Team Cebu City savored the homecourt advantage as they continue to reap more golds in different sporting events during the penultimate day of the Regional Collegiate Games yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Multi-titled tankers Loren Dale Echavez and Noel Caneda spearheaded Cebu PRISAA in the swimming event after bagging five golds apiece out of the 28 golds, 26 silvers and three bronzes that the Cebu swimming team garnered.
Abegail Sakib chipped in three golds, Claudine Candia with two and Alla Ababon with lone gold. Jesse Arriola, Jebb Cane and Rick Solijon added two golds each while Rowan Fernandez and Jupet Guno chipped in one each.
Cebu PRISAA bagged the championship in sepak takraw action courtesy of Jade Batac, Gilbert Bacolod, Erec Dean Cabrera, Joselito Retua, Charleton Belande, John Toong, Henry Danlag, Arnold Niedo and Jonathan Pepito.
In taekwondo, Cebu accumulated 13 golds. The gold medalists were Lord Jay Guia and Mary Ann Espina (finweight), Richard Caingles and Jenesa Vergara (bantamweight), Richard Rama and Karen Joy Fontanilla (featherweight), Ralph Bullicer and Milagros Espina (lightweight), Mark Crapatanta and Lovely Rose Lim (welterweight), Mark Ruiz and Jocell Marie Casinto (middleweight) and Jess Paglinawan (flyweight).
Over at the Aznar Coliseum, men’s volleyball champion University of San Jose-Recoletos earned another ticket in the nationals after fending off Negros Oriental in their final clash behind the powerful attacks of Jesriel Pino, Ken Bhoyd Abunda, Leoniel Sanchez, Kevin Casia and Dennis Sepulveda, a reinforcement from the University of San Carlos.
In the distaff side, the Southwestern University (SWU) reigned supreme over NegOr. The triumph was courtesy of Danika Yolanda Gendrauli, Princess Anne Pido, Lorie May Layno, Danalie Baquiro, Fritzie Aligway and Abegail Praca from USJ-R.
