Security practitioners from Cebu gathered at the NS Outdoor Firing Range last Monday for another orientation to the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) format.
The 1st Security Practitioners Shootfest was supposed to be held that day, but organizers decided to reschedule it to allow more members of the Philippine Society for Industrial Security (PSIS) to get acquainted with the format.
It was also some sort of a gathering for members of the PMA Cebu Squad, who are also Certified Security Professionals as among those who were there were Charlie Duran, Marlon Mesina, Aristotle Templado and Earl Francis Perez.
Some of the more popular members of the Cebu shooting community like Joel Concepcion of Armscor and my cousin Lowell Belarmino were also around to assist in the activity.
Lowell is putting together the 1st Mayor Jonas Cortes Shooters Cup on December 18 at the NS range in Tawason, Mandaue City. There will be an IPSC, IDPA, and shotgun event for this competition.
This time of the year is quite busy for the shooters as the Rogelio V. Osmeña Cup, an event held in memory of Jing-jing Osmeña will be hosted by the Cebu Pistol and Rifle Association (CPRA) next weekend.
Jing-jing was a long-time president of the CPRA and was responsible for bringing the World Shoot to Cebu 11 years ago.
He might have already passed on, but his friends, including this deadline beater, still think much about him and what he had done for the sport in Cebu and the country in general.

The Alta Vista Christmas Fun Golf Classic will be held next weekend at the par-72 course, which could either make or break you.
For the duffers, bring lots of the balls. For the low handicap players, bring extra balls for your flightmates or maybe yourself just in case.
The tournament will be an 18-hole strokeplay event. There will be one mulligan allowed per nine holes, which is the reason why the entry fee is pegged at P2,700.
The extra P200 that will be collected would be given to charitable institutions.
Giveaways for the tournament would be a pair of Etonic golf shoes.
This is, however, exclusive to the members of the golf club, but sponsors can invite non-members to play in the guest division.
See you next weekend!
