CEBU, Philippines – The Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras will be parading a new reinforcement for its title retention campaign in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) volley-ball tournament, which will start next week.
Twenty-year-old Princess Ann Pido from Iloilo City will be a major addition to the roster of exemplary volleybelles of SWU including Danika Gendrauli, Raphril Aguilar, Lorie May Layno, Danalie Baquiro and Elizabeth Emnace.
Pido stands five feet nine inches and was the guest player of the University of St. La Salle (USLS)-Bacolod in the Shakey's V-League last season.
She also was once a member of the RP youth squad like Genie Sabas came.
SWU athletic director Ryan Aznar said that Pido opted to really transfer to SWU and she might have found out that the volleyball program in Cebu is better than where she came from.
"We grabbed the chance to have her (Pido) in the team because we believe that she would be a great reinforcement for the team basing on her track records especially now that we are to defend the title," Aznar said.
SWU's new coach Jordan Paca said that Pido is an advantage for the squad to claim back-to-back titles this year.
Completing SWU's line up are Ma. Christalie Picos, Anna Bennova Sabanal, Kristal Joy Vuelban, Cindy Ladion, Rhea Loayon, Fritzie Aligway, Marlyn Llagoso and Mary Luilyn Pacinio.
This Sunday, all the athletes for the other events of the CESAFI will converge at the Cebu Coliseum for a formal opening ceremony. (FREEMAN)
