CEBU, Philippines - To create and develop skilled boxers who will carry the country’s colors to different world championships is the aim of International Pharmaceuticals Inc. (IPI) on the establishment of Omega Boxing Gym.
IPI Chief Executive Officer Pio Castillo Jr. said that aside from promoting their products, one of their goals also is to help the aspiring boxers to show and maximize their potentials.
“We want to support upcoming boxers, especially to those who have the heart for boxing,” said Castillo, during the opening of their new gym at Juan Luna Ave. in barangay Kasambagan, this city.
The boxers of the stable are amateurs and professionals from the different parts of Cebu.
As a business focusing in the industry of boxing, they have produced eight professional boxers namely Johnreil Casimero, Jason Canoy, Riel Mandate, Edison Serrano, Jayme Paypa, Vergilio Selvano, Romeo Urpanel and Crispen Barba.
Under trainers Christopher Tepora, Rey Orai and Julius Alcos are six amateur boxers — Jack Tepora, Charyl Pukdol, Mark Joel Recabo, Jahlel Paypa, Jordan Catubay and Renato Villamor.
Johnreil “Quadro Alas” Casimero, is one of the professional boxers who trained in the Omega Boxing and Workout Gym and gave not only honor but pride to IPI and to the country after winning the WBO Interim Light Flyweight title.
He will be defending his title against Mexican prospect Ramon Garcia Hirales at La Paz, Baja California, Mexico on July 3.
Meanwhile, James Osorio, the Omega Boxing Gym manager, said that they will stage mini-tournaments in the different municipalities and barangays in Cebu, in order to discover amateur prospects.
Osorio added that the gym is open to the public, using boxing as a means of exercise.
For those interested to have a boxing work-out, each session is pegged at P200. Omega Boxing Gym is open from 7 a.m. until 12 midnight. – THE FREEMAN
