Encarnacion eyes twinkill in Milo junior tennis event

CEBU, Philippines - Christopher Encarnacion seemed to be aiming not only for one but two titles as he motored into the boys 14-under semifinals of the 2010 MILO Junior Tennis Cup-Visayas at the Cebu Country Club yesterday.

Encarnacion, who is hoping to snatch the boys 12-under crown he missed last year, handily beat Oliver Booth, 6-0, 6-0 to barge into the penultimate round of the boys 14-under.

Encarnacion will face next Ralph Juliane, who advanced with a 6-2, 6-1 whipping of Nick Mark Basanal, 6-2,6-1.

The other semis clash in the boys 14-under pits Adrian Parangan against Christian Ugarte.

Parangan kept his bid alive after crushing Francis Quino, 6-1, 6-0 while Ugarte rolled on by default.

In the distaff side, Krissianne Issa Kintanar, Mary Joy Calapre, Clarrisa Mae Fuentes proceeded into the last round of four.

Kintanar escaped past Sofia Dael 6-3, 1-6, 10-2, while Fuentes dumped Girlie Buanghug, 6-1, 6-1.

The semifinal cast in the boys 18-under is now complete as well.

Bernardine “Niño” Siso and Israel Abarquez are on course for a final collision.

Siso clobbered Joseph Tapia, 6-0, 6-0, while Abarquez dumped Joshua Bendoy, 6-2, 6-1.

Siso will take on next Fritz Satera, while Abarquez battles Renz Ma of Manila, who powered his way to a hard-earned 7-6, 1-6, 10-5 victory over Amiel Aya-ay.

The 18 and 16-under are just special events in the Visayas leg as only the top performers in the unisex 10-under, boys and girls 12 and 14-under categories will move up to the final round set this August at the Clark Freeport Zone in Mabalacat, Pampanga.

On the other hand, the girls 12-under quarterfinals will be contested today, with Alexie Santos and Shine Villareal going up against Cherry Mae Toledo and Christine Salimbangon, respectively, while Jana Pages tackles Dawn Uy and Allyza Mae Bornia faces off Zethly Mae Alferez.

Former Milo standout Sally Mae Siso and her elder sister Sallydine also marched into the quarterfinal round of the girls 18-under.

Sallymae is also in the girls 16-under quarterfinals along with Clarrissa Mae Fuentes, Elma and Elgy Dasian, Arielle Alforque, Hannah Espinosa and Krissianne Issa Kintanar. (FREEMAN NEWS)
