CEBU, Philippines – Re-electionist senator Pia Cayetano does not deny gaining more popularity over sports-related activities she has been involved with, but emphasized that her main agenda for doing it is to continue her advocacies especially designed for women.
Before attending the press conference of the Pinay In Action (PIA) Run set this Sunday at the Asiatown IT Park, Cayetano went out for a bike caravan together with Cebu 5th District Rep. Red Durano from Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel in Brgy. Lahug up to Danao City.
Cayetano could just have opted to ride a car and stay away from the sweltering heat of the summer sun but being a highly athletic individual she is, the affable lawmaker go on biking around while greeting the Cebuanos.
Cayetano wants to make herself a role model to women of all ages on what sports can do to one’s own health, character and even empowering them.
“If people gets to see us women into sports, iba yung dating. Sasabihin, uy babae ibang klase. Like this run, it is very empowering. It will bring out women their physical manifestation of capabilities and power. It will make one feel that as a woman, you are in control with yourself,” Cayetano said during the presscon.
Cayetano said the PIA Run is now on its fifth year and this time they decided to make Cebu a part of it.
Although the Pinay in Action (PIA) event is an all-women’s run, male runners are welcome to join provided that they will bring long with them a special woman in their lives.Female runners likewise can also tag along with them their male loved ones.
Registration begins today at the Active Zone of the Ayala Center-Cebu, at the Cebu City Sports Center and at Leona’s Bakeshop in Brgy. Mabolo. Those who are interested to participate have only until April 9 to enlist.
The Cebu leg of the PIA Run is the last of the three-part action.The other two were staged in Manila and in Davao last month.
Close to P31,000 in cash prizes are at stake for the winners in the 10K, 5K and 3K categories.
Senator Cayetano hopes that many runners especially women will take part in the event because aside from showcasing their wares in running, they will also be able to raise concerns on health, violence against women and other concerns to her after the race. – THE FREEMAN
