CEBU, Philippines - People Team A scored a nerve-wracking 85-84 victory over Prodigy Team A to snatch the basketball crown of the 3rd Society of Young Business Executives and Entrepreneurs (SYBEE) Olympics last Saturday at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHS-J) gym.
People Team A, bannered by the Human Resource Development Management (HRDM) students, never looked back after taking an early 28-20 lead. The closed the half with a 46-39 edge and then padded their lead to 17 points, 67-50, heading into the final period.
Roderick Arenasa paced Prodigy A with a game-high 51 points, while regular season MVP Jesse Reay Alvarez chipped in 13 markers.
In the battle for third, Team Solex, composed of legal management students, prevailed over the Finance squad, 57-54.
Aside from basketball, People Team A also lorded it over in volleyball and badminton.
In the volleyball, People Team A secured the women’s volleyball title after trouncing Finance, 18-25, 25-20, 25-14. They also ruled the men’s division after they routed Prodigy B, 25-17, 21-25, 25-19.
In badminton, People Team A’s powerful duo of Erika Gutib and Timothy Joshua Co clinched the mixed doubles title after thrashing Kate Shielo Ang and John Carlo Bartiquin of the Blue squad.
The men and women’s singles titles were snatched by Kaizen (Operations Management) and Blue (Executive Resource Management) teams, respectively.
Gerald Pepito of Kaizen secured the men’s trophy while Kate Shielo Ang took the women’s diadem.
SYBEE is an organization of all business administration and commerce students of the University of San Carlos .
The 3rd SYBEE Olympics is organized by the SYBEE officers headed by Gerald Pepito.
