CEBU, Philippines - It’s all systems go for the Rose Pharmacy Sinulog Open chess tournament on January 23 to 25 tentatively at the Asian College of Technology (ACT).
The competition will be under the open, women and kiddies categories.
“Actually this will be the second major tournament in Cebu that adopted the World Chess Cup system of pairings,” said Roger Abella, who is running the event alongside international arbiter Marvin Ruelan.
“The venue is still being worked out. Most probably it would be at ACT, which hosted a lot of big chess tournaments last year,” Abella said.
Aside from trophies, the champion in the open division will go home P14,000 richer, while the first runner-up will receive P6,000.
The champion in the women’s and kiddies bracket will get P1,500 each, while the second place will pocker P1,000.
All those who will make it to the top 16 will receive a consolation prize. – Marigold P. Lebumfacil (THE FREEMAN)
