Merry Christmas!

As the song goes, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” Its the time of year that people have great expectations. Yehey, it’s bonus time! We get to be merry, happy and gay. We tend to get careless and splurge on material things. This is also the time when we see hustlers roaming, snatchers fleeing and pickpockets filching the unsuspecting.

But let us all remember the significance of the season. We celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ and we all know that Jesus’ symbol is the Cross. In relation to this, let me share with you something that I got from my e-group.

Medical types know what laminin is. Simplified to us ordinary mortals, laminins are proteins that holds cells and tissues together. They hold and support each cell of our bodies to the next cell. They are cell adhesion molecules and without laminin, we fall apart.

The interesting thing is that the molecular structure looks like a cross. Look up any medical or scientific publication and you will see a cross-like molecular structure of laminin. The glue that holds our body together is shaped like a cross.

Long before laminin was known, God in His infinite wisdom already held us together with the cross. We are all being held together by the Cross of Jesus Christ. He was born unto us that we may share in His mercy, love, forgiveness and healing powers. Let us all open our hearts and welcome the new born Christ in our lives. Merry Christmas everyone!

The 5th edition of the Gov. Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup ended last Sunday with two inaugural champions in the men’s category. Powerhouse Liloan emerged victorious in the provincial cluster and Mandaue topped the field in the city cluster. The Catmon ladies retained the provincial cluster crown while Talisay belles got the city cluster title.

I hear there were some controversies as to individual awards and I won’t be touching on the matter. Tournament officials have their own preferences and no matter how ridiculously biased it could get, its their choice. Let’s just accept things as it is.

If my schedule permits, I am at the CICC during the games and as far as I’m concerned, the tournament was well run. Congratulations to the winners and the CEVA. To the losers, let the defeat be a challenge and inspiration to do better next season.

To coaches Ondo Mosqueda and Paul Delgado and the players of the Liloan men and women’s team, thank you for a job well done. To Boss Camilo and everyone involved, thank you for the support.
