Berberio, Carter bag Run For Sight top honors

CEBU, Philippines - Charlie Berberio and Madelyn Carter may have been overshadowed by visiting runners in numerous races here but they still have something to brag about after being proclaimed as "Runners of the Year" in the 2009 Run For Sight Series, which culminated yesterday at the at Cebu Doctors' University (CDU)-Mandaue campus grounds.

Berberio was the top male runner overall, while Carter got the commendation in the distaff side. They both received a Nokia phone courtesy of Sun Cellular and a new DVD player as promised by the man behind the event, Dr. Yong Larrazabal.

Carter sealed her bid for overall supremacy by winning the final leg of the women's 10-kilometer run in 41 minutes and 23 seconds.

Berberio, on the other hand, placed only third behind Kenyan Simon Losiaboi but managed to get the overall title as he already piled up more points from the previous legs.

In th 5K category, Robert Daang emerged as the fastest with the time of 17:52.37, while Llerin Andreama lorded it over in the women's class with a 34:01.14 clocking.

In the all-students action, Ivan John Villaver bagged the first place honors in the men's bracket with the time of 33:28.61, while D Alagar ruled the distaff side. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
