CEBU, Philippines - The gritty Tuburan spikers swept the men and women’s titles in Cluster III of the 5th Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup last Sunday at the Asturias Sports Complex in Asturias, Cebu.
In the men’s bracket, Tuburan had a rough-sailing start as it fell prey to Aloguinsan, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22.
The Tuburanons, however, bounced back with aplomb as they fended off Barili in three sets, 25-19, 21-25, 25-13 before crushing Asturias, 25-22, 25-21 to claim the top spot with a 2-1 win-loss record.
In the distaff side, the Tuburan belles took the crown with a clean 2-0 slate. They thumped Asturias, 25-17, 25-12, and then survived a three-set scare against Barili, 25-20, 25-18.
Barili still has something to cheer for though as it occupied the second place in both divisions.
In Cluster II battle played at the Alegria Sports Complex, Moalboal topped the men’s class, while Badian romped off with the women’s tiara.
Moalboal ended its campaign with a 4-1 win-loss card. Moalboal bowed to Dumanjug, 25-27, 25-20, 20-25 but vented its ire on Alegria, Alcantara, Ronda and Oslob.
Dumanjug also posted a 4-1 win-loss mark, but settled for second place as it lost to Ronda, 23-25, 27-25, 16-25.
Badian, on the other hand, succeeded in dethroning Boljoon, 25-15, 17-25, 25-14. (BANATNEWS)
