CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers) scored 90-80 victory over the gritty University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors to remain at second place in the juniors division of the 9th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season last night at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Lancers had a sloppy first half where they led only by four points, 40-36.They may have responded to the orders of coaches Delfin Pepito Jr. and Abel Bungcaras at the start of the third period but they still couldn’t pull away as the Baby Warriors could always find an answer to their every offensive.
The Baby Lancers applied a full-court press in the entire second half to tire the smaller Warriors and force the latter to a string of turnovers.
Jasper San Brigoli and Michael David Smith ignited a daring rally that powered the Baby Lancers to their biggest lead of 14 points, 55-41, on a basket by Francisco Arong, Jr. at the final 2:56 mark of the contest.
Gerald Legarde topscored for the Baby Lancers with 12 points. Arong and Mark Linao had 11 points apiece, while Christian Quilaton added 10 points as they improved their win-loss record to 6-1.
Gemuel Omolon, the smallest player for the Baby Warriors, had 16 points, while Anthony Gai Romaguera added 15 markers.
