Dungog rules Mayor Pua MMA event

CEBU, Philippines - Niel Dungog of Cebu City's Komjyokai completely dominated the equally-tough Junamar Macaraya of Gaf Mixed of Lapu-Lapu City to emerge as champion in the first ever Carmen Mayor Sonia Q. Pua Mixed Martial Arts Competition last Saturday night at the Carmen Sports Center.

Dungog showed his strength against Macaraya, who made several attempts to control the fight witnessed by a mammoth crowd composed mostly of Carmen residents and neighboring towns of Sogod, Catmon and Danao City.

Organized by the Extreme Combat Sports Mixed Martial Arts, it was the first time in Cebu that an Octagon Cage was being used as fighting ground.

In the other MMA bouts, Ramjess Colina of Island Grappler of Cebu City pounded Jason Tan of C-Mac Bullet, Eduard Mantessa clobbered Jover Gonzaga of Gaf Mixed, while Pablo Santillan of Durex Dragon pinned down Eleuterio Tapdasan of Gaf Mixed of Lapu-Lapu City.

Demetrio de la Torre Jr. of C-Mac/Mandaue City also marched into the podium after mauling Johnjer Torbiso of Durex Dragon of Lapu-Lapu City.

In kickboxing showdown, John Kenan Villaflor of Muay Thai Cebu overpowered Armin Guardiano of C-Mac Bullet, while Anecito Gesta Jr. of C-Mac/Mandaue City crushed Junrey Soquite of Durex Dragon of Pardo, Cebu City.

The slambang show was spearheaded by chief organizer Bambi Pua Abelgas, production managers Jak Abelgas and Jan Varian Pua, production consultant Primitivo Giango, event coordinator Eman Kiamco, picket crews Derio Singson, Talino Kiamco and Junrie Bombita, and effects supervisor Jingjing Daniel.

The judges were Barney Jess Barlaan, Primitivo Giango and Jefferson Callino, while Jerome Casolare and Noel Quinicot served as referees.
