Senator Aquilino Pimentel, Jr., who suggested that boxing champion Manny Pacquiao be sent to talk peace with the Abu Sayyaf and the MILF, must try to think harder.
Pacquiao, who is an Army reservist, of course said that he would agree to do it, but then his now celebrated mother, Aling Dionisia, would not allow Pacman to go.
I guess Aling Dionisia, who has been maligned by many, seems to be thinking straighter than the senator from Cagayan de Oro City.
If Pimentel wants to send Pacman to the Abu Sayyaf, I think it should not be to talk peace but more like to knock them out if they would want to fight inside the boxing ring.
Talking to terrorists will not solve the problem in Basilan where many of our soldiers have died. It will only give them time to regroup.
In boxing, when you see your opponent is already groggy, you go for the knockout not move away to allow him top regain composure.
Pacman must be left to do his duty to our country and that is to unite the Filipinos with his exploits inside the ring.
I still don’t like the idea though of Pacquiao seeking a congressional post.

Felipe Massa plans to return to racing by October in time for the Brazilian Grand Prix at his home country.
Massa, the number two man at Ferrari, says that he is recovering well after a fractured skull forced him out of the Hungarian GP a few weeks ago.
His injury led seven-time driver of the year Michael Schumacher to try to do a comeback, but unfortunately a neck injury sustained in a motorcycle accident has ruled out a Schumi comeback.
It could have happened this weekend in Valencia for the European GP.
Some people called Schumi chicken for scrapping his comeback due to the neck injury. These people probably don’t understand how much strain the necks of the drivers undergo during a race.
If you drive down quite fast (which I don’t suggest you do) at the ramp of the indoor parking of SM City Cebu, you will feel some strain on your neck.
The strain that you feel makes you uncomfortable, which is why I discourage it since it is dangerous, but can you imagine that discomfort times ten or 20, which is the strain that the F-1 drivers feel on their necks during high-speed turns.
It is unfortunate that Schumi’s comeback might have to wait until next season. Some think it might not happen at all.
This season, a miracle might turn things around for Ferrari, which is the reason why I was hoping Schumi would come back just to lift the spirits of the team’s millions of fans worldwide.
No doubt Ferrari is the most popular as you see more people wearing red than any other color during races.
While I continue to hope that things become better for my favorite team, watching the races is still worth the time and heart aches and no one seems to really have taken command yet. Not even Brawn’s Jenson Button, who opened the season with a string of wins.
