CEBU, Philippines - Professional architects and architecture graduates will rekindle their camaraderie though a friendly but highly competitive hardcourt battle as the United Architects Basketball Club (UABC) Season 3 billed as “2nd Davies Cup” blasts off this Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) gym.
Games on Sunday(CEC gym)
1:00 pm Liquid Tile vs. Sun and Rain
2:15pm SAC vs. Megacryl
3:30 pm Powerfloor vs. Biofresh
The event’s formal launching yesterday at Sideline Restaurant Conference Room was graced by United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) District C1 director Alan “Big Al” G. Choachuy, UABC Board of Directors president Antonio “Jay-R” Decatoria, Jr., and Davies Paints Philippines Inc. representative Richie Tan.
“I thank the UABC for giving us the opportunity to be part of their activities. I hope that this very energetic activity spearheaded by UABC will continue,” said Tan.
Just like in the past two years, a total of six teams will vie for supremacy in the two-month tilt. These are Liquid Tile, Megacryl, Sun and Rain, Powerfloor, Biofresh, and guest squad Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-Archi Friends.
UABC vice president for tournament Rolan Paolo Alberto said the competition still follows a single round robin format, with the top four teams advancing into the crossover semifinals. The top two seeds will enjoy twice-to-beat incentives over the lower-ranked squads. The survivors will then clash for the championship in a winner-take-all affair.
“Just like the past season held at the Benedicto College gym, we’re looking forward to another successful UABC tournament,” said Decatoria, who powered Powerfloor to crowning glory in the 2008 edition of the annual caging. Decatoria lifted the Finals MVP trophy, Oliver Tan romped off with the regular season MVP award, while Klein Baladya emerged as the Most Improved Player.
Powerfloor will start its title retention bid when it collides with Briofresh in the main game this Sunday at 3:30 pm.
In the season-opener, Liquid Tile will go up against Sun and Rain, while SAC-Archi Friends will take on Megacryl in the second game at 2:15 pm.
The UABC was formally launched two years ago. It is created to provide the venue for interaction among architects and architecture graduates through basketball.
The club’s primodial objective is to foster fellowship among peers in the architecture profession who share a common passion for shooting hoops. It also serves as a conduit for members to participate in friendly competition and provides an avenue for awareness and a sense of community amongst them. – THE FREEMAN
