Dewfoam fends off JRJ Enterprises in CECABA caging

CEBU, Philippines – Dewfoam ’88 thwarted a spirited challenge by JRJ Enterprises/Semers 2007 to hack out a 44-39 victory in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Saturday night at the CEC gym.

Class ’88 was constantly threatened by the gritty younger graduates after taking a shaky 13-8 lead at the end of the first period, but kept its poise and composure until the closing seconds of the match to halt a four-game jinx.

Gregorio Aguilar was the lone double-digit scorer with 13 points on top of five rebounds and three assists as Class ’88 improved to 9-5.

Raymark Ryan Ong had 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals for Class 2007, which suffered its eighth setback in 14 games.

In the other match, PTT Lubricants 2005 hammered GCM Merchandise ’98-B, 74-66, to raise its win-loss record to 6-9.

From a 17-11 start, Class 2005 battered Class ’98-B in the next two quarters, 41-30, to mount a commanding 17-point advantage, 58-41, going into the final 10 minutes of the contest. Class ’98-B countered with a 25-16 rally but to no avail.

Kent Benedict Uy had 18 points and seven rebounds for Class 2005 followed by Kristoffer Dennis Lee with 17 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists. Godsent Alegado donated 12 points, 11 rebounds and two assists, Kent Noeh Ang added 11 points, while Philip John Lua pitched in 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and a season-high nine assists.

Leovigildo Yu exploded with 25 points and eight rebounds, while Robinson Yap had a double-double finish of 16 points, and 11 rebounds but they fell short in the end as Class ’98-B fell to 5-8.
