CEBU, Philippines - James Gaite of Cebu Country Club scored nine-over-par 78 to bag the top honors in the 2009 Summer Senior Golfers Fellowship Tournament played last Saturday at the Mercedes Plantation Golf and Country Club in the town of Medellin, Cebu.
Gaite fired nines of 35 and 43 in the course designed by top Filipino professional player Frankie Miñoza to win the lowest gross plum.
The title for the Young Seniors class went to Rolf Paul Hess of Club Filipino with a net score of seven-under-par 62 strokes off a gross 84. Second and third place went to host club members Mari Miranda and Jose Rodriguez with rounds of 63 and 66 respectively.
The Mature Seniors class was ruled by Lorenzo Ocheda of Club Filipino with a net score of 61 and taking it via the countback. Second place went to host club member Amado Villadar, Jr also with 61 and his teammate and club president Ed Misa finished third also with a net score of 61.
Hero Kumagai of Mercedes topped the Super Seniors class with a tournament-best net score of 59 strokes. Second place went to Cenizo Modequillo of Mactan with a net score of 68 while third place went to Galileo Ancajas of the host club with a net score of 80.
In the guest division, Jojo Dosado of the host club won the title with a net score of 61 while runner-up honors went to Mactan’s Pete del Rosario with a net score of 67. — NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
