CEBU, Philippines - Dewfoam '88 bounced back from an opening setback and vented its ire on Cebu Diamond Auto Parts 2000, 44-37, while Roadstar/Castrol '96 got off to a sizzling start at the expense of MFL Mini Mart '98-A, 88-66, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC gym.
On a night when star center Ricky Yu was held to a career-low two points, Gregorio Aguilar and Harry Villamor stepped up bigtime with 12 points each for Class '88, which did not give Class 2000 some breathing space after taking an early 14-6 lead.
The Dewfoam-backed squad padded its lead to 16 points at the end of the third period, 33-17, leaving Class 2000 in disarray the rest of the way.
In the other game, Class '96 had five players submitting double digits as it thrashed Class '98-A by 22 points.
Shaun Christopher Wang netted 20 points and Rogelio Donayre added 18 markers as Class '96 left Class '98-A groping for form after firing an explosive opening salvo, 24-11. They closed the first half with an imposing 23-point bulge, 46-23, and the rest was history.
Rex Alinson finished with 14 points for Class '96, while Gerald Chua and Arniel Frank Pelaez chipped in 13 points apiece. Rex Millan paced Class '98-A with 27 points followed by Erick Andrew So with 24.
