CEBU - The Cebu City Rugby Football Club begin its season with the first of twelve “Dragons Rugby Challenge Cup 2009” matches at the new Aboitiz sports field at 2 pm today. The tournament is a monthly series, where the Cebu Dragons challenge their local rivals Low Flying Dragons.
The Low Flying Dragons are composed mainly of experienced foreign players and will be led by Damien Allison, general manager of the Gustavian Restaurant. Allison, who played in the Philippine 7’s rugby team in Sri Lanka, will be supported by former Tongan Rugby League international played, Hola Ikatau.
The Cebu Dragons are captained by five-time Philippine national player Noel Flowers. He will be leading an all-Cebuano squad to their second Rugby Challenge Championship.
Through the years, the Cebu Dragons have developed local Cebuano talents and have had 13 players represent the Philippine National Rugby Team in both men’s senior and junior level.
Cebu City Rugby Fooball club goals is to develop the sport of rugby in the Visayas region and aims to make Cebu the greatest Rugby touring destination in South East Asia. (PR) THE FREEMAN
