CEBU - The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) through the office of commissioner Fr. Vicente “Vic” L. Uy, SVD will donate P50,000 to the University of San Carlos-South Campus Parents Teachers Association, Inc. (USC-SC PTCA, Inc.) which will be used to finance priority projects of the group that are beneficial to both the school and the students.
Fr. Uy, who is groomed as the next PSC chairman, was the special guest during the PTCA, Inc. Family Day last Sunday. He was invited by the PTCA Executive Board led by Dr. Hermes Ibon.
In return, the PTCA Sports Committee honored Fr. Uy with a plaque of recognition for his leadership in sports par excellence.
The awarding was held at the south campus covered court and was witnessed by school principal Mrs. Corazon P. Sasing and some members of the executive board.
Fr. Uy was later treated to a lunch by second year level coordinator Susan Dalangin, 2nd year Magenta class adviser Bethzaida Gorre, and class mayor Matt Erikson Malagar.
While making a brief campus tour, Fr. Uy said he was impressed with the very festive atmosphere during the affair.
“It’s like having a fiesta here in USC. It looks like there is no financial crisis in our country right now,” Fr. Uy said.
Fr. Uy started as USC vice president for administration and then VP for finance and athletic director of the oldest school in Asia. He was later named the team manager of the USC Warriors in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) and was elected president of PRISAA Region 7.
In recognition of his valuable sports leadership, PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez appointed Fr. Uy as director of PSC-7, then executive director and now commissioner of the country’s highest sports governing body.
This early, Fr. Uy admitted that it will be a very big shoe to fill in the post of chairman Ramirez. He said that it looks like his appointment as the next PSC chief will encounter rough sailing because of the power struggle and too much politics just to acquire such juicy position.
