CEBU - LILOAN — Bantayan raked in a total of six golds in both divisions during the second day of athletics event in the Cebu Provincial Sports and Cultural Festival 2008 at the Liloan Central School track oval.
The elementary boys squad got two golds courtesy of Jeorge Desamparado, who ruled the 400-meter hurdles with the time of one minute and 19.20 seconds, and Joseph Garcia, who dominated the 1,500m run with a clocking of five minutes and 22.48 seconds.
Junaline Layese contributed another gilt for Bantayan in the girls 400m hurdles with the time of one minute and 15.73 seconds.
The rest of Bantayan gold medallists were Vivencio Awit, Micahel Alob, and Jesa Bautista. Awit reigned supreme in the discus throw event with a distance of 27.49 meters, Alob was victorious in the 400m hurdles with a time of one minute and 2.49 seconds, while Bautista registered 4.47 meters to get the long jump gold medal.
Minglanilla’s Jhaye Rabia, on the other hand, sustained his momentum after winning the discus throw event with a distance of 19.52 meters.
Daanbantayan and Ginatilan secured one gold each courtesy of Carine Gulfan in girls long jump in 3.78m and Elenelyn Montecalbo in the girls 1,500m run with the time of five minutes and 45 seconds.
Catmon gained two golds from Vernie Aveja in the 3K run (10:17:33) and Johndie Butillas in the 1,500 meter run (4:37.95).
Asturias’ Mayen Lagnas took the women’s 1,500m run gold (5:28.25), while Angelica Manog of Madridejos lorded it over in the women’s 400m hurdles with the time of one minute and 16.79 seconds.
Not to be outdone, Liloan completed a clean sweep in the girls elementary gymnastics competition with Kylie Kate Cabahug bringing home the overall title in the individual all-around event.
Rotche dela Pena finished in second after she won the ball and the rope events, while AJ Melgar finished third.
Anna Mae Vicente topped the floor exercise, while Joseph Congson of Consolacion broke Liloan's grip of titles by ruling the floor exercise event in the boys elementary division.
In secondary gymnastics, Liloan again went home with the top three slots in the individual all around event.
Rose May Aligno came away the victor with impressive routines in the hoop, ribbon, ball and rope exercises. Finishing second and third place were Lara de la Peña and Sheila Mae Postrero, respectively.
Emerson Sarza of Consolacion won the floor exercise event in the boys secondary category.
In secondary basketball, Malabuyoc of Bracket B registered two wins after trouncing Poro, 91-76 and Argao, 80-74. In Bracket A, host Lilo-an overpowered Dumanjug and Carmen beat Balamban, while Bracket C saw Dalaguete routing Barili.
In secondary girls volleyball, Compostela, Sta. Fe and Sogod secured three victories each. (THE FREEMAN)
