CEBU - The star-studded Cabangahan and Panoypoy routed separate foes in the continuing action of the 2008 Consolacion Fiesta Cup Inter-Barangay Basketball League at the Consolacion Sports Complex.
Cabahangan hammered out an 82-77 victory over Poblacion Occidental in a showdown of former commercial stars, while Panoyboy handily beat the hapless Tayud, 87-62.
Former Cebu Gems forward Michael Almonte topped Cabahangan with 29 points, while Rey Maraño and Abe Galinato chipped in 17 and 11 markers respectively.
Milfred Sampilo paced Poblacion Occidental with 17 points followed by Leodi Garcia and Jay-R Pepito with 14 points apiece. Jarry Jaca scored 12 in a losing cause.
Rene Toring, on the other hand, showed the way for Panoypoy with a game-high 24 points.
The three-month tilt, which serves as one of the highlights of Consolacion’s annual town fiesta on October 29, is organized by Consolacion Vice Mayor Ember V. Alinsug in cooperation with Poblacion Oriental barangay councilor Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former standout of FEU Tamaraws during his UAAP days.
