More than 70 barotos in Baroto Regatta sa Talisay

CEBU – Governor Gwen Garcia and Cebu First District Rep. Eduardo “Eddiegul” R. Gullas will grace the inaugural “Baroto Regatta sa Talisay” today at the Talisay Tourist Resort in Poblacion, Talisay City.

Garcia will fire the pistol signalling the start of the race routing from the venue going north to Parola then to Lagundi Reef and back.

Close to 70 barotos will participate in the said boat race organized by City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (C-FARM C) spearheaded by its chairman David “Kuya Boy” Odilao.

On top of trophies and medals, cash prizes await the winners. The champion will take home P20,000. The second and third placers will pocket P15,000 and P10,000, respectively.The fourth will receve P5,000, while the fifth will get P3,000.

Those who cannot make it to the top five will not go home empty-handed as they will be receiving gift packs from sponsors.

“This activity is dedicated to the lowly fishermen of Talisay who still use the small baroto for fishing,” said Odilao.

Odilao added that the boat race is also in connection with the feast day of St. Therese de Avila, the beloved patroness of Talisay City, which falls on October 15.

“Today is the birthday of our beloved Governor Gwen Garcia, so this is also dedicated to her,” said Odilao. – THE FREEMAN
