CEBU - Three-time women’s champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) shoots for its fourth straight victory when it takes on the University of Cebu today at the resumption of the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) volleyball tournament at the Aznar Coliseum.
After vanquishing the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) last week, the USJ-R belles of Cebu Sports Hall of Famer coach Grace Antigua are now in the brighter side of claiming the top spot in the women’s division.
That is, of course, if they beat their toughest rival Southwestern University next week.
Like USJ-R, SWU of coach Janeth Ponte is also undefeated in three starts, so far. Southwestern will face the University of San Carlos in today’s second game that will be followed by the showdown between USPF and Cebu Doctors University.
In the afternoon session featuring the men’s division, CDU will clash with Cebu Institute of Technology.
The undefeated USJ-R, which is tipped to dethrone USC and spoil the Carolinians’ grandslam bid this year, will try to extend its hot streak against UC, while USPF will square off against the hard-fighting University of the Visayas in the day’s final match. – Marigold P. Lebumfacil . (THE FREEMAN)
