Liloan-Sogod grudge rematch to kick off Red Durano caging

CEBU - A rematch of last year’s finals will usher the opening day of the 3rd Congressman Red Durano Cup Inter-Town Basketball Tournament, with defending champion Liloan taking on Sogod today at the Danao City Sports and Civic Center.

Before the much-anticipated Liloan-Sogod showdown, four teams from the island area will go up against each other.

Poro, the top team among the islanders, will play against San Francisco, while Pilar will face Tudela.

In the main game, Liloan will field in the same lineup that gave them the title last year. The lone addition is Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco.

Before the games proper, a simple kick-off rites will be done starting off with the traditional parade of competiting teams.

The affair will be graced by Cebu 5th District Rep. Red Durano, his father Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, and Provincial Board member Agnes Magpale.

In the tournament, the teams in the island will play in a single round robin format, with the top qualifier advancing into the semifinals along with the top three seeds in the mainland area. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol . (THE FREEMAN)
