Boysen Paints barged into the win column in style, hacking out an 85-84 upset of the highly-favored Golden Lines at the start of the second round of elimination in the Vic Enterprises Invitational basketball tournament at the CEC gym.
Golden Lines got off to a rousing 33-18 start, but the Paint Masters charged back in the second canto to narrow down the gap to only nine points at halftime, 40-49.
Boysen Paints kept its daring figthback to eventually knot the count at 64-all going into the final 10 minutes of the contest.
The two protagonists engaged in a nip-and-tuck battle from that point on. With the score stood at 84-all, Jay Ramodes split his charities with 12 ticks left before the final buzzer and it was more than enough to lift Boysen Paints to a breakthrough win, its first in six starts.
Mark Capili powered Boysen Paints with 21 points, while Ramones chipped in 12 markers.
Roel Sestoso had 20 points, while Alex Cainglet and George Uy cashed in 13 points each for Golden Lines, which slipped to 2-2.
In the other game, the Ave Maria Sanctuary Park defeated Unilink Shipping, 85-80, to forge a tie with its victim at 2-1.
Freddie Latosa paced Ave Maria with 18 points followed by ex-pro Marlon Piodo with 17.
Aaron Pancho, who played for the Lapu-Lapu Chiefs in the Inter-City League, topped Unilink’s scoring chart with 20.
