The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars banked on a spirited endgame assault by Clint Muñez and Allan Dave del Rosario to fend off the panicky Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons, 84-70, in the lone juniors division match of the 8th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Jaguars could not get their game going until the last five minutes of the fourth period where they started to rip the game apart. The credit goes to the Dragons for refusing to give up in the face of USJ-R’s offensive onslaught.
Exploiting his experience, Muñez easily shackled the CEC defenders to topscore for the Jaguars with 28 points. Del Rosario chipped in 13 markers as they evened their win-loss record to 2-2.
Peppery pointguard Nolasco Cisneros III was the lone bright spot for the Dragons, finishing with 24 points.
Even the 20-point contribution of Albert Sy was not enough to prevent the Dragons from absorbing their second straight defeat in as many games.
