Northwoods leaned on the tandem of Bong and Fermin Pepito to hack out a 69-56 win over Pañeros in the 2008 Cebu Lawyers Basketball League that opened yesterday at the Capitol Parish Gym.
Bong fired a game-high 18 points, while Fermin added 16 markers. The duo imposed their will in the paint, allowing Northwoods to erect a huge 47-26 lead, at the 6:50 mark of the third quarter.
The Pañeros rallied late in the fourth period and moved within 53-60 inside the final three minutes of the contest.
Northwoods, however, ended the game with a 9-3 blast to escape with the victory.
Vicente Ordiniza showed the way for Pañeros with 13 points while Nilo Balorio added12 markers.
