Jufil Sato exploded for 47 points in the second day and his partner Hubert Calan made 40 for a total of 87 points to seize the overall lead in The View Invitational 2008 at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city.
The Sato-Calan tandem holds the provisional lead with a two-day aggregate of 166 points (79-87). The second half of the 200-team field will still be playing their final round today.
Wilky Lim and Angelo Marquez made a total of 82 points on their final round on rounds of 39 and 43 while as of presstime, the rest of the field failed to break par.
First day leaders Rolando Alberto and Hospicio Razon managed only 70 points shooting 31 and 39 points respectively in the Modified Stableford Scoring System. Their two-day total is 151 points.
Organizers were still finalizing the classification of the teams as of late yesterday afternoon.
There will be prizes for the teams with the lowest net overall and lowest gross overall aside from the top three of each handicap class.
The father and daughter Deo and Irina Gabasa, which led after the second day, also fell short in their second round shooting 70 points on identical rounds of 35 apiece. The team’s two-day total is 154 points.
At stake for a hole-in-one in the event is a Kia Picanto on hole No. 8 courtesy of Gateway Motors (Kia-Cebu).
A Club Car golf cart is up for grabs on hole no. 2 while a lot from Sta. Lucia Realty and Development Inc. is at stake on the 15th.
Aznar Bros. Realty has put a class A share on the line for an ace on hole No. 6.
Other hole-in-one prizes are P200,000, a Yamaha motorcycle from Norkis Trading, and a water softener from Water Boss. The water softener will be raffled off if not won.
A Skygo motorcycle is put on the line as eagle prize for all par-4 holes.
In case more than one player will win a particular hole-in-one or the eagle prize, they will have to equally share it.
The awards ceremony will be held tonight at the AVGCC ballroom. Due to the limited seats available, only participants and sponsors would be allowed to attend.
Globe Telecom and Taiyo Yuden Philippines are the two biggest backers of the tournament.
Other major sponsors are A.D. Gothong Manufacturing and Pagcor.
