While the Lagmans walked on different paths the other day, the Siso siblings Sally Mae and Niño made sure that they won’t experience the same fate as they continued to pounce on after Day 3 of the 13th Gullas Cup tennis tournament yesterday at the Casino Español de Cebu tennis courts.
Sally Mae had little trouble in terminating Clarissa Fuentes with uniform scores of 6-1, 6-1 to march into the girls 18-under semifinals, while Niño mauled JP Alba, 6-1, 6-0 to breeze through the boys 18-under quarterfinals.
Sally Mae is anticipated to face next Cheska Tabotabo, who is expected to come up with an easy win against Elna Dacia.
Aside from Sally Mae, Hanna Espinosa also advanced into the penultimate round after trouncing Jeremie Campo, 6-1, 6-1.
In the boys division, four others joined Niño into the last eight. They are Kennex Abadia, Princeton Gerapusco, Lowell Lloyd Cañete, and Christian John Cabahug.
Abadia posted a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Andrew Batuto, while Cañete dispatched Cyril Camporedondo 6-3, 6-3.
Cabahug progressed after coming up with a hard-earned victory via a super tiebreak, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8, while the visiting Mindanao netter Gerapusco pulled off an easy 6-2, 6-1 conquest of Jose Amando Lumenoque.
Over at the Cebu Country Club, Jacob Lagman kept his sizzling run with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of Janil Joy Pintor to reach the boys 14-under final eight. He will face next Angeloe Villarante for a final berth.
The other quarterfinalists in the boys 14-under are Dan Cinco, Kim Ayuda, Fritz Satera, Francis Alcantara and Benjo Garcia.
Vince Marc Tabotabo also entered the quarterfinal round but in the 12-under class after taking away a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Carl Cathedral.
The other players who made it to the next round alongside Tabotabo include RJ Singson, Zathley Mae Alferez, Charles Kinaadman, Ranz Gerona, Germaine Laurel, Christopher Incarnacion, Jan Godfrey Seno, and Jason Lauron.
