Cebu’s Kim Lao rules National Open kegfest

Cebuana Kim Lao showed to everyone why she’s included in the national team by winning the National Open and Youth Championship recently at the Green Valley Bowling Center in Pasig City.

Lao, who is with the Bowlingplex Tenpin Association (BTA) before she got a slot in the RP pool, topped the girls youth masters event with a total of 2,519 pinfalls. She showed consistency in the 12-game series with a game high of 247 pinfalls to pocket the P20,000 champion’s purse.

Kim Lao is one of the Pinoy bowlers who will leave for the United States to  undertake a month-long clinic in Kegel. All their expenses will be shouldered by the  Philippine Bowling Congress.

Mades Arles of TBAM finished second with 2,479 pinfalls, while another RP Team training pool member Dyan Coronacion landed at third with 2, 454 pins.

Alexis Sy, the other Cebuano RP team member, settled for sixth place with 2, 323 pins.

In the men’s side, Cebu’s Jomar Jumapao also made a remarkable performance as he wound up second to Frederick Ong in the open masters division.

Jumapao, who attempted a rare perfect game but fell short in Game 8, toppled a total of 3, 649 pinfalls.

Hall of Famer Paeng Nepomuceno was among those who hit a perfect game, but only placed fourth overall in the Tenpin Bowling Association of Makati (TBAM)-organized tilt.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
